-The only correction that you need to fix has to do with linking. Your page (this one) is to be linked to the 'AND THEN THERE WERE NONE' page. Most people linked it to the 'here' page and this is not what the directions asked. Please fix it and you'll be all set.

Assignment #3

12/3/09

Question:

Choose 5 characters. Then write two sentences telling what you know about him or her.
Some of the characters from chapter three were Mr. Justice Wargrave, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Davis, Anthony Marston, and Philip Lombard. In chapter three Mr. Wargrave seemed like the leader in this chapter. He was the one who was trying to take control of the situation. Mrs. Rogers in this chapter got overwhelmed by the voice and "fainted." I am not sure if she was telling the truth, or that she might of lied and does know who owns the house. I think she could of fainted to distract the others. Mr. Davis in this chapter confesses that his real name is Mr. Blore. This made me very suspicious. Anthony Marston, the good looking guy, I think he is a victim. In this chapter it seemed like he was also calm. I am not sure who the murderer will be. Philip Lombard in this chapter seems like a follower and was also trying to help Mrs. Brent.
Kate-
Again, some very astute observations about the characters. I especially like how you think that Mrs. Rogers might be acting as a distraction. That often happens in a mystery novel to lead the reader on a wild goose chase.

Assignment #2

12/2/09
  • Find four examples of suspense OR foreshadowing in chapter two.
  • Write the exact wording from the book - that means type the sentences exactly as they are written.
  • In a well-written paragraph, explain why these sentences clearly show either suspense or foreshadowing
Suspense
One example of suspense in chapter two is when Fred Narracott is getting the boat ready and says, "The boat's waiting. There's two gentlemen coming by car, but Mr Owen 's orders were not to wait for them as they might arrive at any time". When I read this, I suspect something is wrong. Why could they not wait on such a lovely day? Also Mr. Owen has many instructions for his guests even though he is not there. When the Butler says, "Mr. Owen-unfortunately delayed-unable to get here till to-morrow", this is very suspenseful because the butler could have killed Mr. Owen. The Owens may never come to meet their guests, and the way it was written in the book makes the reader feel suspicious. The poem also foreshadows how the guests might die.

Kate-
Lots of good examples of suspense. Again, you need to check for spelling errors, run-ons and grammar mistakes.
Please correct your post.
Mrs. M.

Nice job on correcting your errors. It shows effort on your part.

Assignment #1

11/30/09

how does a mystery novel differ from a narrative?

A mystery novel is different from a narrative because a mystery novel is a story that keeps you guessing. There are clues in a mystery, and we try to figure out the outcome. Also a mystery is a book that may have detectives that look for the answers. A narrative is a book that tells a story with not many mysterious happenings.

how might the title be a clue to the story?

The title of the story, "And Then There were none" might mean to say the story is about people who mysteriously disappeared to be no one. This story could also be about the world falling apart and no one survives. Also this story could be like the game Clue.

Kate-
Some good observations. I like your comparison to the game
Clue.
Check for spelling errors.
